Gracious K – Migraine Skank

Not as twee as his name might suggest…

Hillary Brown: Oh my, that’s an appropriate title. I suppose it’s bangin’ or whatever, but this is the kind of music that makes me feel like your cranky old grandparents.

Kat Stevens: Disappointing, in that I was expecting some sort of Einstürzende Neubauten drill-n-bass with searing white noise and screams of anguish. Neither is it a bath of ambient opiates to soothe away all aches and pains. What it *has* got is just enough momentum to carry the ultra-simple lyrics and dance routine.

Ian Mathers: For better or worse, “Migraine Skank” doesn’t live up to its title.
[4]

Martin Kavka: This is a how-to-do-that-dance-everyone-else-is-doing song. A simple dance, a basic syncopated beat, an annoying sound effect minimized by being mixed down, all add up to something pleasantly effective. I would complain about the track not displaying more of Gracious K’s skills, but these kinds of instructional tracks aren’t necessarily meant to be impressive.
[7]

Michaelangelo Matos: Precisely the kind of track worth hearing for 90 seconds or so in the middle of a DJ set full of stuff that sounds more or less exactly like it, and nowhere else.
[5]

Dan MacRae: I can’t help envisioning all the accidental broken noses as a result of this song. Elbows swinging, compromised vision, mistimed leans. You’re operating in a world of danger…
