We’re having a competition.

The headline does not lie! We are having a competition!

The winner of this competition will score a copy of the latest Da Capo Best Music Writing and a US$50 (or equivalent) Amazon gift card. You can read some great music writing and then purchase some great music — or, if you prefer, movies, Kindle books or apps.

Here’s how it works. From December 5 to December 10 we will be running Amnesty Week. 19 of our writers and editors each picked one song that we missed in 2011 due to being inattentive, swamped or just deaf to the zeitgeist. You have to match the writer to their selection. Reading previous entries may give you clues. Some of us have mentioned our chosen artists or songs in passing elsewhere, so hit our archives and get to know us a little better! If you’re a regular reader you might well have an advantage.

These are the songs and writers, in alphabetical order:

Alex Ostroff ANE BRUN – Do You Remember?
Anthony Easton BEYONCE – Schoolin’ Life
Brad Shoup BIG FREEDIA – Y’all Get Back Now
David Moore CHRISTINE FELLOWS – Mlle. Sténo
Edward Okulicz DANNY BROWN – Lincoln Continental
Frank Kogan ERIC CHURCH – Country Music Jesus
Hazel Robinson FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE – Someone’s Gonna Break Your Heart
Iain Mew GRUFF RHYS – Sensations in the Dark
Jer Fairall IU – The Story Only I Didn’t Know
Jonathan Bogart JACQUES GREENE – Another Girl
Jonathan Bradley LITTLE DRAGON – Ritual Union
Josh Langhoff LOCUSSOLUS – I Want It (Lindstrom & Prins Thomas Mix)
Katherine St Asaph NERINA PALLOT – Put Your Hands Up
Michaelangelo Matos REBECCA BLACK – Friday
Michelle Myers REJ3CTZ – Cat Daddy
Rebecca Toennessen SONS & DAUGHTERS – Rose Red
Sally O’Rourke THE LOVELY EGGS – Don’t Look At Me (I Don’t Like It)
W.B. Swygart THE RAPTURE – How Deep Is Your Love
Zach Lyon TIERANNIESAUR – Here Be Monsters

In case of a tie-breaker we will use whoever guesses the closest to our final average score of “Friday.”

So, email your entry to thesinglesjukebox@googlemail.com and include the following:

– Your name and where you’re from
– Your guesses as to who picked which song (here’s a template you can attach, if you wish)
– Your guess at the final score of “Friday” to two decimal places
– A song from 2011 you wish we’d reviewed (optional!)

Entries close at 12:00am midnight (US Eastern) or 5am GMT on Monday 5 December 2011.

Tell your friends about our competition (link us! re-blog us on Tumblr!), as the more the merrier. Thank you for reading us this year.

UPDATE: Entries now closed.
