Showtek ft. We Are Loud & Sonny Wilson – Booyah

British EDM Hits, Part 2: The Dutch Guys…

Iain Mew: Move aside Skrillex, Majical Cloudz and Neon Hitch — We Are Loud is the new most fitting artist name for a track. You wouldn’t think that something so dependent on the thrill of going “VWERP!” could delight for five whole minutes, but Showtek space it out just enough, and when it does finally threaten to get dull they turn up a speed-drum’n’bass-reggae setting out of nowhere. Preposterous and brilliant.

Alfred Soto: Hornet calls, Latin melodies, house beats. An ideal amalgam, or hoping for something — anything — to work? You judge.

Daniel Montesinos-Donaghy: As you’d imagine when you lay three separate songs atop one another with an irritating compere, there’s no forward traction, just a burst and a flimsy reaction with a flimsier thought process: let’s be loud because let’s be loud!

Scott Mildenhall: What a racket.

Juana Giaimo: Should this make me want to move my feet to the beat and lose my mind?

Brad Shoup: Saves the DJ a transition, I suppose. Shame the dynamic toasting section couldn’t be wedded to that snakecharming melody — or, barring that, shame it couldn’t be used to maximum clashing effect during the d’n’b bit.

Edward Okulicz: All the points here are because the main riff’s intense, bludgeoning stupidity brought to mind 2 Unlimited’s “The Magic Friend” and any three late ’90s dance instrumental hits you care to think of first. I don’t know why it has to drop in intensity and turn into a short bit of drum-n-bass, but it does, and the effect is like turning a knob on the radio and moving back and forward in time about five years: it shouldn’t be possible, and makes absolutely no sense, but the memories are pretty good.

Katherine St Asaph: I’m about one stoopidly competent pre-sequenced mix away from just giving EDM in 2013 a blanket [5] and sparing you the writing.

Patrick St. Michel: Well, it’s better than Knife Party. That’s cool.

  1. I love this. I think I prefer the version I heard first, which is a lot lighter on the light bits and heavier on the heavy bits. Endless fun.
