Coming up: Readers’ Week

That’s it for normal business in 2014, but we still have one of the most exciting parts of the year to come. From Monday we’ll review 15 of the songs you suggested to us, out of 50 nominations we received in total. Listening to them all was very enjoyable, and if you want to listen to the whole lot too, there’s a playlist below in no particular order. Sorry if we don’t review yours this time, and thank you for taking part and for reading.

  1. There were many songs that deserved an Amnesty! Here’s 14 tracks from ’14 that never got reviews in TSJ and would’ve been interesting to know your opinions on them:

    Rén – Time
    Brika – Expectations
The Knocks – Classic (feat. Powers)
    Banks – Beggin for Thread
Fred V & Grafix – Catch My Breath (feat. Kate Westall)
    Yuri Zouma – The Brae
    Erlend Oye – Garota
    Glass Animals – Gooey
Kero Kero Bonito – Sick Beat
    Sophie – Lemonade
    Robby Hunter Band – Corazón
Chet Faker – Talk is Cheap
    Sylvan Esso – Coffee
    Marian Hill – Got It

A particular shame that Banks single never got reviewed and the other two did, as it’s her more popular single to date and the one with the most crossover appeal.

  2. sorry moka, we unfortunately tend to have oversights like that every once in a while (eg. covering j. lo’s “booty” but not “i luh ya papi”).

  3. I love “Sick Beat”, and it ended up feeling weirdly prescient, not just in coming out a week before “Shake It Off”
