Claire Biddles: Middling R&B that serves as the tip of an internet drama iceberg, “Medicine” is a retread of familiar beats, both musically and narratively.

Nortey Dowuona: Waterlogged, bubbling bass buoys Queen Naija’s smooth, ghostly voice as she swings over the glittering synths and rattling, balloon drums into her cheating ex’s face.

Ryo Miyauchi: While Queen Naija’s talk about FaceTime threats may get its millennial speak from Kehlani, her taste for vengeance as well as the beat’s wounded dizziness makes “Medicine” the opposite version of SZA’s “The Weekend.” The iPhone lingo already dates the dialog a good amount, but it’s only a side effect of scripting such a current drama, starring a character of pure evil just in search of an excuse to burn her boyfriend’s life down.

Will Adams: So that’s who’s leaving The Weeknd on read! “Medicine” seems like a fresh, “Before He Cheats”-style revenge anthem until you realize Tink did the same namedrops and Cardi B evoked savagery much more believably.

Crystal Leww: Everytime I hear this chorus, it reminds me so much of that bit in “Don’t Tell Nobody” that goes “I’ma text Bryan, Facetime Ryan, call up Keenan, tell him I need him.” This is less interesting than what Tink was doing with Da Internz and Jeremih, but Queen Naija is charting in a way that Tink unfortunately never did. Plus, the sentiment is there and the spirit of “Don’t Tell Nobody” is alive in this. Sometimes that’s all we can hope for.
