Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: Gotta admire Polo G for just doing a normal Polo G verse and not moving at all towards more pop-friendly material or attempting to match the beat. Unfortunately it does make it sound like NEIKED lifted his entire section from another, better song.

Mark Sinker: “All i do is sit around and wait for better days” — another solution is get off your ass right now and write a song worth hearing or even just singing.

Thomas Inskeep: Muller’s voice is fairly average, loaded with that Dua Lipa vocal fry that every new female pop singer seems to have these days, but she sounds fine on this perky pop record. Polo G drops in for the rap bridge and neither improves nor lessens the proceedings, which overall are pleasant enough.

Nortey Dowuona: This swinging disco throwback is is so sleek I can already feel my feet touching an Aeropostale floor, the preppy jeans to my left, the sharp shirts on the left. Then Polo G glides in over the drums, being vivid, clear and tight, and I perk up my ears. Then I remember I have a few shirts to buy.

Alfred Soto: The kick drum and bass nod toward fellow traveler Dua Lipa, going ham for the sake of a sentimentality shared by the audience but no less ick for being true. Annoying hook too.

Claire Biddles: I feel like “Better Days” can’t decide whether it’s going for laid-back or peppy. Mae Muller’s parts and the post-chorus instrumental hook bop along effortlessly, but Polo G’s delivery is too low energy, and the song kind of sags once it gets to his verse. Unsurprising that it’s been popular on TikTok where hooky snippets matter more than the whole.

Iain Mew: Neiked hit pretty much exactly the same mood as on their breakthrough, only minus the incongruous sex and the considerable talents of Dyo, and plus disco strings which sound like “I Will Survive” trapped in a lift. For a song that’s in part about marking time, the results are all too appropriate.
